You all should find information on your author in this database. Use your public library card number for access, or see Mrs. Woo's number on your printed resources sheet. Then click on Biography Resource Center and key in your author's last name, first name in the space provided.

Grolier Online
Many of you will find information in this database. Under "Select a Database," choose "Grolier Online" and click "Go." If prompted, enter your library card number (or Mrs. Woo's, given on the resources sheet). Otherwise, click on "Grolier Online" again. Then key in your author's last name, first name. You may also try your author's full name, first name and then last name, in quotation marks.

Year by Year
This site describes historic events of the 20th and 21st centuries by year and by decade. Searchable. If you know the year your author published a book, or the year your author was born, for example, try clicking on that year and reading about world and U.S. events.

To find out what was happening in the world during a certain year, click on the "Events" button in the menu on the left. Then choose the correct time period on the right side and click on it. Note that if the year you are investigating is before 1901, you will need to click on "19th century." Then you can read a list of events that occurred during the year you select.
