Directions:

  1. First I will assign you a topic.
  2. Next you will research and write about your topic using the site listed under our class link on the library website. Depending on your topic, you will be writing an article, a want ad, an advertisement or an editorial.
  3. After researching your topic and taking notes, you will prepare a newspaper article. All of the articles from your class will be compiled to create a large class newspaper that will be displayed in our classroom.
  4. Before compiling the class newspaper, you will present your article to the class.

How you will be graded:

Research (30 pts.)

Collected a great deal of information, all related to the topic.

Consulted at least two sources and correctly cited sources used.

(Works cited page is to be turned in on a separate paper, not as part of your article.)

Content (20 pts.)

Specific guidelines of assignment were completely fulfilled. Project contained interesting, accurate information.

Originality (10 pts.)

Work was creative and original. Information gathered during research was utilized in a unique way.  All work was put into writer’s own words.

Graphics (10 pts.)

Drawings or graphics included that contributed to understanding the topic.

Word Choice/Following Directions (10 pts)

Work contained at least FIVE words or expressions (underlined) attributed to Shakespeare. Work submitted on one 8 1/2” by 11” sheet of paper. Graphic no larger than 1/4th of the page.

Organization (10 pts.)

You have used the appropriate format for your topic. (ex. editorial, advertisement, want ad…)

Conventions (10 pts.)

Excellent control of mechanics, spelling, grammar and punctuation. NO run-ons, fragments or comma splices.
